Abstract: Automobile design engineers are constantly preoccupied by functionality, safety and aesthetics. Du Pont have developed products in TEDLAR and PV 116 that satisfy these criteria simultaneously. TEDLAR film and its sister product PV116 resin are based on a polyvinyl fluoride and are finding increasing use in the automotive industry for their high tensile strength, resistance to UV radiation and resistance to most chemicals encountered in the industry. This paper concentrates, in particular, on applications inside and outside the automotive industry and the six properties that make TEDLAR and PV116 of interest to the car maker.

Keywords: PVF coatings; surface protection; vehicle design; vehicle safety; polyvinyl fluoride.
