Abstract: The development of starch-based biosorbents as useful polymeric matrices is an expanding field in the area of colour removal by adsorption. The main objectives of this paper are to summarise the developments related to the decolourising applications of these polymeric materials and to provide useful information about their most important features. An overview of several recent studies reported in the literature is given. We summarise the information available on the synthesis of starch-based materials and discuss the various interactions involved between dyes and biosorbents.

Keywords: starch; dyes; biosorbents; polymeric networks; interactions; wastewater treatment; textile wastewater; adsorption; colour removal; decolourisation.
