Abstract: The purpose of the present study is to obtain improved solutions to noise and vibration (NV) problems in the product development process. Conventional textbooks and technical papers on NV control almost always describe analysis methods or case studies only. The study is an attempt to find a systematic method by which to provide hints to engineers to generate NV solutions. The method developed combines the conventional NV theory with TRIZ, a general method of invention originally developed in the former Soviet Union. Engineers can find specific solutions by looking up tables of general solutions to noise and vibration problems obtained in this study.
