Abstract: This paper deals with two important aspects of nanotechnology that are of potential interest to the oil and gas industry. In the first part, a summary is presented on recently established nanotechnology initiatives in various countries around the world. Program funding levels and core activities will be compared to provide a basis for assessing the level of development of the various branches of nanotechnology. The second part of the paper looks at the applications of electrodeposited nanostructured coatings, as a branch of nanotechnology, in oil and gas industry.

Keywords: nanostructured coatings; corrosion; catalytic properties; mechanical properties; oil and gas industry; potential applications; program funding; nanotechnology; electrodeposition; nanostructures.
