Abstract: This paper examines the law governing recognition of foreign court judgements in China and whether this regime is in practice effective. It is concluded that it is not, reflecting among other factors a more extensive problem in the Chinese legal system, that is, the limited reach of the courts in civil matters.

Keywords: foreign court judgements; China; Chinese legal system; law; judgement recognition; civil procedure; civil actions.
