Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) is important for energy industries. Presently, it was aimed to study the prevalence of KM practices in energy industries in India. A questionnaire was prepared. About 516 respondents from the 47 energy industries from different sectors participated in the survey studies. KM was being widely practised in all of these leading industries which have good organisational performance. Studies reflected that a flexibility approach should be adapted in dealing with employees in failure management. Learning from the failures would lead to a culture of lifelong learning in these industries which are well on their path to become learning organisations. This would encourage and motivate the employees to undertake challenging and risk averse works in future which may result in innovations and may also lead to the successful organisational performance. KM is also an essential part of information systems in organisations. KM is a lifeline of energy industries.
