Abstract: Manufacturing units have contributed for the economic growth and development of the country in a significant amount. The success of any organisation depends on its efficient manufacturing performance. As most of the manufacturing units use non-renewable resources of energy which generate large amount of wastes during the processes leading to various types of pollution, it has become essential that the sustainable manufacturing practices are adopted by these units. The present study aims to identify various drivers and barriers for implementation of sustainable manufacturing practices in the manufacturing units across the globe. For this a systematic literature review is carried out where the scholarly work done by the researchers on sustainable manufacturing was analysed, synthesised and critically evaluated. Based on the analysis, the authors have put forward the propositions for drivers and barriers of sustainable manufacturing.
