Abstract: Industry 4.0 is a revolution that has arisen from transformations in the physical, digital, and biological aspects of human life. This revolution occurred with the advent of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber-physical systems. The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review of Industry 4.0 technologies and the ways they could affect future research directions. To accomplish this, the articles addressing Industry 4.0 were extracted from the WoSCC and were analysed in CiteSpace. The results revealed that although Industry 4.0 emerged from developed countries, developing countries such as India focused on smart technologies more and could achieve a considerable industrial status in the near future. The findings clarified that although research on Industry 4.0 previously focused on engineering, over the past year's studies in this field mostly investigated such topics as the environment, quality, and Society 5.0, which could shape the future research directions of Industry 4.0.
