Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore and evaluate the impact and role of corporate governance in the sustainability of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In addition, this study aims to clarify the international standards of corporate governance and then analyse the legal texts in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Corporate Law related to corporate governance and sustainability. This study deals with the reality of the corporate governance of SMEs in the UAE in the light of international standards of governance. These international standards were represented in five principles adopted by the International Development and Cooperation Organization (IDCO) and the extent to which the provisions of the UAE Corporate Law contributed to activating the corporate governance and sustainability of these enterprises when established as a limited liability company (LLC). The study uses qualitative observation through subjective methodologies and systematic information analyses.
