Abstract: Development efforts in the Muga silk industry have underperformed due to lack of supply chain visualisation. There exists a wide knowledge gap on supply chain perspectives that can be reliably referred upon, for planning industry development. Supply chain mapping has gained importance as a feasible approach for the problem of visualisation. Strategic supply chain mapping approach professed by Gardner and Cooper (2003) matches the industry focus of this study. Process mapping and relationship mapping have been used as sub-approaches to acquire systematic information on our descriptive modelling objective. The study has effectively delivered a comprehensive supply chain map covering information on entities, SC processes and sub-processes, material flow, product categories, process interactions and industry administration horizons. A separate spatial map was also produced. This is an original research application of supply chain mapping approach for achieving visualisation in the Muga silk supply chain.
