Abstract: The paper is targeting solution to the problem of noise/vibration reduction in driveline/transmission of a truck and all-wheel-drive vehicle. It is customary to modify the gear micro-geometry to accommodate misalignment and minimise transmission error in a truck transmission. Various possible kinds of modification of a pinion tooth surface are considered. Topological modification of a pinion tooth surface, if a proper design is accomplished, yields up to two times reduction of transmission errors. Reduction of transmission errors results in corresponding reduction of noise/vibration excitation by a truck driveline/transmission. An advanced technology of finishing of topologically modified pinion tooth surface for low-noise/noiseless vehicle transmission is proposed.
