Technological opportunism and wireless e-business adoption: a case of Finland
by Kira Lopperi, Kaisu Puumalainen, Jarno Kappi
International Journal of Technology Marketing (IJTMKT), Vol. 1, No. 3, 2006

Abstract: Firms respond to new technologies in several ways. The article studies perceived innovation characteristics and technological opportunism in explaining adoption of a radical technology, namely wireless e-business. The companies examined are from the forest and ICT sectors in Finland. Analysis suggests that higher degree of technological opportunism is associated with relative earliness in both piloting and implementing wireless solutions. Forest companies lag behind the ICT companies in both monitoring and implementing, but the adoption proceeds from piloting to implementation more quickly in the forest sector. This has implications for understanding the adoption process and defining marketing strategies for new technologies.
