Affective images of the top rails in China traditional rosewood chairs

Abstract: In order to adapt to the developing personalised customisation market, product designs should consider the changed affective images of products in the current customer mind. Kansei engineering is an effective method to analysis and setup affective images of products. Rosewood furniture is the typical representative of China traditional culture. But with the change of time, its affective images in people's mind have changed and so its affective word space and images is a valuable research subject for modern furniture designers. Taking the top rails in China traditional rosewood chairs as the research subject, this paper setup the affective word semantic space of the top rails using questionnaire survey, semantic differential method and principal component analysis method, studied their affective word semantic images and tried to apply these traditional design elements in modern chair design according to their different affective images.
