Abstract: This paper proposes a new idea for converter-based speed control optimisation for switched reluctance motor. The main objective of the speed control technique is reduced torque ripples and improved control performance achieved using matrix converter-based PID controller. Speed control performance optimisation is attained using particle swarm optimisation algorithm. The potential benefits of matrix converter are flexible current profile and lowest switching frequency, hence, minimal loss. Simulation and analysis has been evaluated using MATLAB/Simulink with the reference speed 1,500 rpm within the time frame of 0.045 seconds.
