Abstract: The study attempts to find out the types of Solar Home Systems (SHSs) available in the hard to reach areas of Bangladesh and evaluate the cost-benefit of adopting such options as a green energy. The study findings exhibit that the SHS is available from 20 Wp to 85 Wp in the market and their costs range from USD153 to USD479. The net present value of the SHS demonstrates positive outcome for the considered 6%, 8%, 10% and 12% discount rate in which relatively greater benefit can be attained at 6% discount rate for all type of SHSs. The study also reveals that for a 20-year life cycle SHS can reduce carbon dioxide emission up to 193.8 M tons which has a larger implication for the CDM projects as well as profitable climate action in Bangladesh. The study suggests that, strong endeavour in low-cost SHS development and rapid promotion can intensify decent employment, green growth and climate resilient development in Bangladesh and the countries of global south as well.
