Abstract: One of the emerging applications of IoT and its devices is to design and build smart devices for smart buildings. Though one of the design issues of smart devices such as anytime anywhere presence is achieved, there is a dearth need to ensure another challenging design issue viz., security, interoperability and energy efficiency. There are many emerging algorithms and techniques to address this issue. An attempt has been made in this paper to survey the emerging and optimistic algorithms that can address this ever dynamic issue in building smart cities using IoT. Energy efficient and environment friendly secured smart devices can be designed and developed in the future to build perseverant smarter cities.
