Abstract: Bat algorithm (BA) is a heuristic algorithm based on echolocation characteristic of bats and developed by the mimics of bats' foraging behaviour. In daily life, we always select something good by the friend's recommendation. Inspired by this phenomenon, in this paper, we propose dimension-recommended mechanism (DRM) in neighbourhood search. The mechanism detects the dimension which has a high influence on the objective function and is recommended to the other bat. The new approach drives the algorithm towards the promising dimension of the search space, which is recommended by the other bat, rather than random dimension in the progress of iteration. Extensive experiments, carried on 19 benchmark functions with different properties, demonstrate the improvement in effectiveness and efficiency of DRM.
