Abstract: This paper deals with a new design method of a fractional order PID controller for time-delay systems based on min-max numerical optimisation. The proposed design method uses a constrained optimisation algorithm to determine the unknown parameters of the controller. The main objective of the proposed method is to improve the transient time response, the stability margin, the robustness and the load disturbance rejection capability. All of these performances are tested through simulation examples.
