Abstract: Studying and implementing green concepts and strategies has become a challenge for many organisations. Although, it is the primary aim of an organisation to maximise productivity and profits, environmentalist believe that using green concepts in manufacturing products should be assigned the same priority level. Automobile industry in India contributes significantly to its economy as well as provides employment to a large chunk of skilled manpower. Yet, if the industry does not follow the green standards and enabling technologies, it will ultimately accelerate environmental degradation. Government has an imperative role to ensure that the green strategies are implemented effectively. Green products can be recycled and the problem of disposal of wastes can be addressed. In this paper, enablers of Green Manufacturing have been identified and Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) approach has been applied to propose a hierarchical framework that can help the managers to implement the green concepts in Indian automobile industry with relative ease. The current research will help the managers to identify the key enablers of green manufacturing so that the products are manufactured without any ill effect on environment.
