Abstract: Current research aims at meta-analytic review - sanitation and governance towards sustainable sanitation. This paper elaborately discuses review of technology driven sanitation governance from India and other parts of the world focusing upon smart technologies to monitor toilet usage. It is an exploratory research with extant literature review and bibliometric analysis. This paper compares and distinguishes technology designed and submitted for grant of patent by a team of researchers. The sanitation governance emerges as a critical aspect to achieve sustainable sanitation. The technology led sanitation governance is a popular trend mainly because of needs met at affordable costs. Smart toilet tracking system can be a powerful system to monitor whether toilets are being used for the desired purpose. India, Latin America and other emerging economies have challenging targets not only for improved sanitation, but achieving sustainable sanitation. Technology-led governance solutions can help improve capabilities in measuring, monitoring and controlling indicators. However, innovation obsession needs to pass the test of need and capabilities assessment.
