An analysis of physical disorders of workers at construction site: a fuzzy-AHP ranking

Abstract: Rapid growth in industrialisation process demands higher production rates. Morden technology increases the demand of product and makes industries competitive. To sustain in business, humans have to interact highly with machines and processes. This relationship between human and machine interaction or ergonomics uses the principle of natural laws of work to solve anatomical and physiological problems between man and machine. Many companies like construction, manufacturing, mining demands more human interactions. Basically, a construction company plays a vital role and acts as the building blocks for the development of a country. Improper management in the work place will reduce the productivity of a construction company and ergonomic performance of various workers. To study the ergonomic performance of workers in heavy working condition like a construction company a questionnaire-based survey is conducted for body parts and various body movements of carpenter, plumber, welder and mason. To improve work protection, avoid ergonomic risk factor, to undue physical stress, strain, and overexertion, including vibration, awkward postures, forceful exertions, repetitive motion, and heavy lifting, this study is conducted and workers are ranked by studying their body parts and body movement with multi-criteria decision making techniques like fuzzy-AHP.
