The effect of nitrogen solubility, heat treatment and hot forging on 0.15%N duplex stainless steels

Abstract: Duplex stainless steels are gaining global importance because of the need for a high strength corrosion resistance material. Duplex stainless steels are a family of two phase ferritic austenitic stainless steels. Two grades of duplex stainless steels were produced in a conventional induction furnace. In the first part of this paper, heat treatment is concentrated in which specimens were solutionised at different temperatures starting from 1010° to 1140°C and characterised. Ferrite content variation and hardness variation was observed from different solutionising temperatures. In this study the relationship between heat treatment microstructure and their effects on mechanical properties were examined. Increased solutionising temperature has resulted in higher ferrite content with lower hardness.
