Abstract: Information technology (IT) has been slowly adopted in the electric utility industry due to factors such as the lack of standards. The current study aims at developing standardised e-business solutions in the electric utility industry to accelerate IT adoptions. Specifically, first, three general chain models for the electric utility industry were presented (e-supply, e-value and e-customer). Then, e-business solutions in the electric utility industry were developed by mapping from three e-chain models. Finally, the current patterns of IT adoptions in the electric utility industry were presented by investigating applications of e-business solutions in the top ten dominant companies.
