Abstract: Cooperative caching is widely used in mobile ad hoc networks to efficiently reduce data access cost. In this paper, we propose a new cooperative caching algorithm, cooperative new (COPN) for efficient cache discovery and replacement. Existing cache discovery protocols pays less attention to message overhead occurring in the process of cache discovery. Our proposed algorithm explores a zone-based approach to optimise cache discovery. We also propose a cache replacement policy that aims t increasing the cache hit ratio. The simulation results show that, compared with other representative broadcast-based algorithm and cluster-based algorithm, our proposed scheme can significantly increase the cache hit ratio and reduce both message cost and access delay.
