Abstract: We conduct a cross-case study on two top manufacturing firms in air compressor and CCTV sectors to analyse the process where manufacturers integrate newly added resources with their existing advantageous resources for servitisation in China. On the one hand, manufacturers have no option but to allocate their very limited resources to service providing, as a result, manufacturers are not able to give equal consideration to both manufacturing and service providing; on the other hand, services that support the supplier's product (SSP) and services that support the client's action in relation to the supplier's product (SSC) have different resource management characteristics. Therefore, manufacturers need to select an appropriate service pattern based on its resource and capabilities to ensure smooth transformation towards servitisation, and should strength the manufacturing capabilities as well as service capabilities.
