Comparative exergy analysis of organic flash cycle with and without regeneration using low-grade heat source

Abstract: The organic flash cycle (OFC) has recently been proposed for the recovery of low-grade heat sources. This paper presents a comparative exergy analysis based on the second law of thermodynamics for an OFC with and without regeneration using a low-grade heat source. Effects of the working fluid, flash temperature, and regeneration on the system performance, including the exergy destruction at each component of the system, as well as on the exergy efficiency and second-law efficiency, are systemically investigated. The regenerative system shows a lower heat input rate but higher exergy efficiency than the original OFC, and shows an improved potential for the recovery of low-grade heat sources as well.
