Abstract: In this paper evaluation of realistic stresses and strains at the notch root for plate with U-shaped opposite side notches with shallow and deep notched geometry using nonlinear finite element analysis (NLFEA) is presented. The paper also focuses on the prediction of local stresses and strains on the notched specimens by notch stress-strain conversion (NSSC) rules viz, Neuber's rule and equivalent strain energy density (ESED) method. The results of linear finite element analysis (LFEA) are used for the assessment of the inelastic stresses and strains by NSSC rules. The accuracy of the result is assessed by comparing results with NLFEA.
