Abstract: A novel two degree-of-freedom simplified dynamic model is built to explore the torsional vibration characteristics of a compound planetary power-split hybrid powertrain system. The simplification process and the governing equations of the two degree-of-freedom model are introduced. Moreover, free torsional vibration and forced torsional vibration of the simplified model are computed to get the vibration property. After comparing the full degree-of-freedom model of the hybrid system, the novel two degree-of-freedom simplified model can capture the low-frequency vibration characteristics of this hybrid system. The proposed simple yet efficient powertrain model can be used to study the vibration control of a hybrid powertrain.
