Productivity measurement and improvement - an overview

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to present the concept of productivity, factors affecting productivity and techniques of productivity improvement. Productivity is an ability to do better today than yesterday and continuously. Effectively using the knowledge in manufacturing processes can substantially improve the efficiency and productivity. This study also explores the global production and operations measurement (POM) research based on papers published in 14 POM journals and provides an overview of the relevant latest research issues related to productivity measurement and improvement. Comparison table on the productivity measurement and improvement showing methodology adopted and key findings obtained by various researchers is also presented. Seventy eight papers have been taken from 1981 till date and efforts have been made to develop a brief survey on the applications. Statistical analysis regarding number of papers published in various journals is also presented.
