Identification of critical success factors and organisational competencies in construction companies using an integrated model (a case study of NASR consortium)

Abstract: Despite a good start or reliance on a certain executive model, many organisations encounter failure in their plans due to the ignorance of managers and planners to a set of factors effective on implementation. Critical success factors (CSFs) determine the short-term strategies of the organisation. Moreover, identification of competencies is a source of original strategies which direct the organisation to the adaptation of a competency-based approach. The present study used a descriptive analytical method based on library studies and questionnaires to identify CSFs of a strategic plan for construction companies in five main categories including business processes, technology, resources and information, human resources and leadership. Using questionnaires, this study identified CSFs and organisational competencies based on an integrated model in the NASR consortium. The results show that CSFs included human resources and promotion of organisational culture, organisational structure for implementing strategic plan, technology-demand proportion, process training, strategic planning methods and frameworks, participation of employees in strategic planning process, promotion of staff skills for implementation of strategic plan.
