Does emotional intelligence contribute to contentment? Exploring the association between work-life balance and job satisfaction

Abstract: Emotional intelligence provides the ability for performance and usage of this potential expects towards deriving contentment. The present study attempts to focus on application of emotional intelligence in work settings while exploring the relationship between work-life balance and job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. 180 respondents from healthcare organisations were approached for study through convenience sampling. The findings reveal that work-life balance and job satisfaction are positively related. Emotional intelligence is found to be significantly mediating the relationship between work-life balance and job satisfaction. From professional's perspective it was argued that an emotionally intelligent professional is expected to derive contentment both at personal and organisational level. The results of the study offer possibility to develop intervention plans which includes wisdom and emotional intelligence as the principal component to increase the overall job satisfaction of employed professionals.
