Abstract: A multi-stage and multi-stream manufacturing system has several process stages each of which consists of one or more streams (e.g., machines) depending on some factors (e.g., bottleneck machines, different production rates). A number of methods were developed for implementing statistical process control (SPC) for single stage multi-stream manufacturing processes. However, few articles that considered developing charting schemes (known as integrated control chart systems) for monitoring multi-stage and multi-stream manufacturing processes as a whole can be found. This article reviews the available literatures on the design of the control chart system and discusses the basic procedures for the designs of the integrated control chart systems for monitoring multi-stage and multi-stream manufacturing systems. Finally, some future research directions are given.
