Abstract: In view of the performance steering pump application, this paper discusses the speed offsetting characteristics in specific speed range based on the action principle of a new variable displacement of the double-action vane pump. Under consideration of serious energy loss of an automotive hydraulic power steering system, the new pump has been designed and produced to overcome the problem. The key components of the pump were tested, and the test results show that the new pump with the speed offsetting can reduce the energy loss of the automotive hydraulic power steering system efficiently. The pump consumes about 20% less energy on average within the specific speed offsetting and hence the prosperous utilisation is expected.
