The relation between the tribological test results and tactile response

Abstract: Touch feeling is closely related with several mechanical and chemical properties of human skin and material surfaces. For example, the surface topography, such as roughness, fineness, affects to tactile sensibility of people, and also the compatibility between skin and surface materials are important factors to determine the frictional characteristics and emotional perception. In this paper, finger friction measurements on some fabric surfaces were made. In addition, semantic differential surveys were also carried out using seven-pointrating scale. Then these two variables were interrelated by statistical methods. As a result, this paper suggested that the tactile response of product consumers can be estimated in numerical way based on frictional experiment results.
