Dynamic study of an adsorber of a solar adsorption refrigeration machine used for air conditioning of airports

Abstract: Every year, millions of passengers travel airports and stations all over the world. These buildings need an air conditioning system able to ensure a high comfort throughout the year. Air conditioning systems account for a large ratio of energy consumption in airports. In the present work, the performance analysis of a solar adsorption refrigeration machine by modelling of heat and mass transfer in the adsorbent bed was carried out considering the climatic data of Constantine airport (Latitude 37°17'N, Longitude 6°37'E, Altitude 694 m). A numerical analysis and performance prediction of a solar adsorption refrigeration machine was carried out. This model is a very good tool to predict the distribution of the temperature, the pressure, mass adsorbed in the adsorbent bed, the cold production and the performance of the system. The material which constitutes the adsorber tube must have a lowest possible volumetric heat capacity which is the key criterion for the choice of material. Three key criteria for the selection of the adsorbent used with activated carbon were established.
