Middle East J. of Management (MEJM), Vol. 3, No. 1, 2016

Abstract: Succession planning focuses on employee development and retention. Job satisfaction and job engagement are two important components that provide actionable insights into the workforce. Applying the three concepts correctly provides opportunities to foster an innovative culture, boost performance and increase competitive success. This article examines the relationship between succession planning, job engagement and job satisfaction to highlight the potential association and importance of succession planning in reinforcing engagement and satisfaction. This paper follows a quantitative, non-experimental correlational design of research. The measuring instrument used in this study is a Likert scale questionnaire that consisted of three parts to cover each variable. The questionnaire distributed electronically to a sample of Egyptian MBA students. The final results indicated a positive correlation between succession planning and job engagement and job satisfaction independently. Further analyses, implications and future research suggestions are provided.
