Abstract: Electronic voting is one of the most significant components of e-government and refers to the adoption of online systems to cast ballots in an election. Numerous studies have attempted to explain and predict the phenomenon of citizens' intention to adopt e-voting systems, but the literature in this area still lacks a comprehensive framework. This study aims to provide a comprehensive conceptualisation of e-voting adoption intentions by synthesising the frameworks in the extant literature and further enrich the proposed framework by drawing on theories from behavioural intention literature to explain the understudied factors that may be significant. The proposed framework comprises of seven independent and three moderating variables. We argue that the role of citizens' prior experience with technology as well as different election types and contextual political factors need to be included in the studies in the area of e-voting adoption.
