Abstract: In this paper, a function-based scheduling method combining with statistical analysis of historical runoff data and inflow data is proposed to calculate the initial water level of a reservoir under long-term optimal operation. Two-ary interpolation function and database searching are integrated in the solving process. An example is taken to demonstrate the feasibility and engineering practicability of this method. Initial water level obtained by this method establishes a foundation for making optimal scheduling plans.
