Victimisation, rights and care givers of intellectually disabled in India - an overview

Abstract: Rights of intellectually disabled persons are of much concern in recent times. Intellectually disabled persons endure various forms of abuse both physical and sexual. Such issues have been taken into consideration. This article shifts its focus from the rights of the intellectually disabled to the rights of the carers and concludes that the rights of the carers is also important to ensure the rights of the intellectually disabled. Without proper consideration of the rights of the carers of the intellectually disabled it may be difficult to ensure the full realisation of the rights of the intellectually disabled. The article finally takes its cue from some models from different countries where such issues are taken into consideration and concludes that such efforts are of primary importance to the Indian country as well.
