Study of the ionic conductivity of a gelatin-NaCl electrolyte

Abstract: The electrical characteristics and temperature effect on the ionic conductivity of gelatin-NaCl electrolyte have been studied. The electrolyte was characterised by impedance spectroscopy with the frequency range of 10 Hz to 50 kHz. The study reveals that ionic conductivity of gelatin-NaCl electrolyte is dependent on frequency, concentration of NaCl and temperature. A sharp rise of ionic conductivity is observed up to 500 Hz, while the rising trend starts to saturate from 500 Hz to 50 kHz. The present study shows that the higher the concentration of NaCl, the higher the ionic conductivity. By raising the temperature of gelatin-NaCl electrolyte, the ionic conductivity increases. Different from Zhou's work, we perform the electrical characteristic study in both low- and high-frequency ranges. In addition, we propose an empirical model that predicts the ionic conductivity of gelatin-NaCl electrolyte with respect to temperature (from 25°C to 50°C) and frequency (from 10 to 800 Hz).
