Abstract: In this work, the nonhydrostatic mesoscale model MM5 was applied over the area of Epirus, Greece, using its nesting capabilities. Specifically, we used a multinest procedure in which the analysis of the inner grid was 1 x 1 km. The model was applied for a day characterised by inversion conditions and stagnation during which the air pollutants' concentrations were expected to increase. The extracted meteorological fields were found to be in good agreement with the measured meteorological parameters in the area, representing the inner grid, although there is only one first class meteorological station in operation there.
