Abstract: Remanufacturing is considered an outstanding production model. Automobile engines are of great recycling value for remanufacturing, and whether a used engine can be remanufactured depends on its remanufacturability. In this study, a three-dimensional remanufacturability evaluation method for used engines is proposed, which involves the evaluation of technological feasibility, economic feasibility and environmental feasibility. In technological feasibility analysis, seven evaluation indexes are calculated quantitatively. For economic feasibility and environmental feasibility, comparative analysis is conducted for engine remanufacturing and new manufacturing. Furthermore, in environmental feasibility analysis, the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology is introduced to evaluate the environmental impact. In addition, the weight of each index is determined by the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. Finally, to examine the feasibility and validity, the three-dimensional method is applied to evaluate the remanufacturability of a WD 615-87 diesel engine.
