Electric drive system control strategies of articulated vehicles with four motor-driven wheels

Abstract: Articulated vehicles are suitable for working on bumpy roads and in narrow spaces. The use of an electric drive system in articulated vehicles is a very important research trend. In this paper, electric drive system control strategies of articulated vehicles with four motor-driven wheels are focused on. Incremental proportional, integral and derivative (PID) control, pre-excitation and feed-forward control are combined to improve the tracking effect for the output voltage of the excitation system of the generator. A self-load test system is designed to prove the performance of the power control strategy. The coaxial equal output torque control strategy is applied instead of the traditional speed control strategy to improve the running performance of the vehicle. A prototype vehicle is designed and several experiments are taken to verify the performance of the torque control strategy.
