Abstract: The following paper presents the general model of a driving system: IC engine - hydrostatic transmission - load of a vehicle, in the form of area with specified spectrum of variables: torque and velocity. This model allows the analysis of efficiency of hydrostatic driving system and points of work of an IC engine in the field of load characteristics. Mathematical models of the components of the driving system, for the analysed case, are the results of the experimental examination. The concepts of global efficiency and ecological indexes originally introduced are suitable to compare the quality of driving systems working in statistically the same load conditions. It allows the evaluation of the value of those parameters in the whole functioning life of a machine.
