Abstract: This paper develops a fuzzy inventory model for deteriorating items with ramp type demand function which determines the optimal replenishment policies by minimising the total cost of the inventory system. Shortages are allowed and are partially backlogged. Fuzziness is introduced in the traditional cost components to a certain extent using the triangular fuzzy numbers and the signed distance method is used to defuzzify the total cost function. This paper, first, develops the crisp model by considering the two possible scenarios arise due to ramp type demand function, and then their corresponding fuzzy models are developed. To test the validity of the model, numerical study is also conducted followed by the sensitivity analysis on the key parameters.
