Drivers of social entrepreneurship

Abstract: Social entrepreneurship is a prominent form of entrepreneurial activity. Given that creating social value is one of the main goals of social entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurship is especially important in today's economic climate, characterised by a severe global crisis that has affected the role of the welfare state for a host of economic agents. Consequently, it is highly advisable to devise measures to foster social entrepreneurship by addressing the key variables that drive this activity. This study's aim was to analyse some of these variables, namely human capital and income distribution, as well as the institutional variables of the rule of law and corruption. To achieve this aim, the economic situation in 29 countries was studied using Partial Least Squares (PLS) methodology.
