Cache agent-based geocasting in VANETs

Abstract: Geocast routing is one of the most investigated choices for researchers of VANETs due to group of vehicles sharing geographical region on the road. Most existing geocast protocols are based on flooding technique. They suffer from high packet duplication, hop-to-hop disconnection, hop count, packet loss and low packet delivery. In this paper, a cache agent-based geocasting (CAG) protocol is proposed. Re-caching and full radio range transmissions integrated with connectivity assurance algorithm (CAA) are the two additional concepts of CAG. The performance of CAG has been compared with caching and transmission range control (CTRC) and directional flooding (D-Flooding) protocols. CAG outperforms CTRC and D-Flooding in terms of packet delivery, packet duplication, hop-to-hop disconnection, hop count, and packet loss.
