Abstract: This study uses ANSYS CFX to simulate the aerodynamic characteristics of a rocket-assisted projectile (RAP) with deflectable nose, obtains lift coefficient and drag coefficient with different oncoming airflow velocity, attack angles and deflection angles. The simulation results were verified with experimental data from actual wind tunnel tests. Analysis of the results shows that simulation results vary with nose deflection angle, and how nose deflection affects external ballistics. This research could establish a foundation for further investigations on trajectory control.
