Abstract: In this paper, we investigated two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs) with sector scatterers, which introduce anisotropic characteristics by reducing the scatter symmetry compared with that of cylinder scatterers. An effective calculating method for structure factor matrix was proposed to realise high efficient simulation based on plane wave expansion (PWE) scheme. The results showed that the directional bandgap and the complete bandgap could be tuned periodically by changing of the angle of orientation. When the missing angle θ is between 60º and 120º, the adjustable range of directional and complete bandgap width of TM mode is increased with the missing angle θ.
