Abstract: Manufacturing internet of things (MIoT) is an important means to upgrade the traditional manufacturing operational framework and information/material flow. This paper proposes a creative architecture of MIoT for advanced complex manufacturing processes, which accommodates those factors frequently encountered in operation and management, such as dynamic, large-scale, complex, heterogeneous, strong uncertainty and diverse optimisation objectives. With layered technologies of reliable sensing, real-time transmission, pervasive computing, precise controlling and trusted service based on MIoT, this new proposal attempts to achieve precise scheduling and controlling of a whole manufacturing process and to provide effective dynamic information services. For the whole manufacturing process, the proposed architecture and the related key technologies have been comprehensively taken into account for the main issues which should be focused on and solved in every aspect such as data collection, network transmission, data processing, manufacturing process control and information service. It is hoped that the study can provide useful reference for future academic researches and potential industrial applications of MIoT.
